Illinois (The Gaslamp Post) – In true Chicago political fashion, Mayor Rahm “The Godfather” Emanuel, employed textbook liberal Dem tactics today, as he addressed his constituents over a growing problem in his city. Since the start of 2012, America’s second city has seen a jump in homicides to the tune of 60% in the first quarter, bringing the total number of murdered citizens to 120. They’re not bothering to count the 490 shootings which thankfully, were nonfatal.

Mayor Emanuel bobbed, weaved, and when that didn’t work, did the “Barack-Obama-two-step-schuffle.”
He said he’s done everything he could, but the mess was bad when he got here. That’s right it’s all former Mayor Richard M. Daley’s (might as well say Bush’s) fault. Deflect, degrade, and blame it on the last guy (thank you Liz, I gagged on my coffee when I read that; that was pretty good).
“You can say, ‘Are you doing it right,’” Emanuel said, “but the question is, ‘Why were those policies not done before?’”
What he was addressing, of course, is the recent increase in violent homicides that have plagued the city, and do not appear to be tapering off. Last month, during one particularly violent weekend, 49 people met their demise, including a 6-year-old girl who was shot and killed as she sat between her mother’s legs on her family’s front porch.
Last Monday, a woman was shot in her car as she sat in traffic, Wednesday a woman was shot in the face as she was driving, and early today both a woman and her baby were shot as bullets came through the walls of her home. The baby was hit in the head.

Statistics, schmatistics, mayor Emanuel doesn’t have time for those! He knows what’s wrong; it’s the culture. The CULTURE has to CHANGE in order for his master plan to work. With the growing gang problems being met by him increasing the number of officers he’s putting on the streets; something’s bound to work eventually.
If it doesn’t, we’ll find something else to blame. How about the weather? Yes, it’s the weather’s fault that all of these people were killed. With the weather being warmer, criminals are more likely to be outside, doing bad stuff.
Even Chicago’s top cop, police Superintendent Garry McCarthy isn’t buying THAT one.
But it’s not ALL bad; overall, all other crime dropped by 10 percent, according to the Chicago Tribune. Sexual assaults are down 15% and burglaries are down by 10%. Curious to know if this has anything to do with it recently becoming legal for Chicago citizens being permitted to own handguns. Illinois has historically had the most restrictive gun laws in the union.
But none of that matters to the mayor. Bet your bottom dollar that he has a plan up his sleeve.
“We are putting in place a set of policies and enforcement strategies to deal with the gang bangers so the people in this city know that those streets do not belong to gang bangers, they belong to the kids and the law-abiding citizens of our city.”
Michael Shields, president of the Fraternal Order of Police, which is the union that represents Chicago cops, calls BULLSHIT. The real problem is that as aging cops retire, they’re not hiring any fresh blood.
“Any officer will tell you that the Chicago Police Department is short-staffed, except for the superintendent,” said Michael Shields. “This year’s budget was balanced at the expense of public safety.”
So there’s no money in Chicago for more police, people are being killed in a number that dwarfs both New Orleans and Washington D.C., and it’s the last guy’s fault for this problem.
Hey America, guess what Chicago DOES have money for? Today, in addition to paying lip service to the problem of Chicago becoming the wild west, he pledged $10 Million to clean up the once open sewer, the Chicago River. Mayor Emanuel said that the man-made canal,
“will now be a place that people can stop and have family fun, canoeing, kayaking and sculling.”
Sure, when they’re not being shot at. This was one of President Obama’s boys, right? How far does the apple fall from the tree?
