Terror Suspect Accused of Trying to Hit FBI Agent

Michigan (freep.com) – A federal judge in Michigan has ordered a man suspected of supporting terrorist groups held on allegations he tried to crash into an FBI agent’s car.

The FBI says 26-year-old Reed S. Berry of St. Joseph was under surveillance around the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks because of his suspected terrorist links.

Agent Samuel Moore says in court documents he and another agent were following Berry on Sept. 9 when Berry began speeding in reverse toward Moore’s vehicle. Moore managed to avoid a crash.

Magistrate Hugh Brenneman in Grand Rapids ordered Berry detained Wednesday on a charge of assaulting a federal officer.

Defense lawyer Elias Muawad says Berry’s online postings cited in a March search warrant are constitutionally protected and that Berry is upset over the terrorism investigation.
