West Virginia (The Charleston Gazette) – Police are searching for a would-be bank robber whose attempt failed because a teller couldn’t read his handwriting.

WTOV-TV of Steubenville, Ohio, says police have released surveillance video in hopes of identifying the suspect who showed up this week at Main Street Bank in Wheeling.

They say the teller couldn’t make sense of his note and asked if it was a joke.

Police Chief Robert Matheny says when she handed the note back, the man became frustrated and left. He says the man didn’t threaten the teller or mention a weapon.

Nor did he get away with any cash.

Still, police are searching for a white male, about 6 feet tall. He was seen wearing a blue hat, long-sleeved white shirt and jeans, and driving a grayish four-door sedan.
