Hey, it takes a village, right?
Missouri (The Gaslamp Post) – The State of Missouri has charged a 17-year-old with first degree assault after dousing a younger child with gasoline, and then setting him on fire. The victim, a 13-year-old whose link to the accused is undisclosed, is presently in a burn unit.
According to News-PressNOW.com, the alleged perpetrator had threatened to punch the victim in the face if he resisted the shower of gasoline, prior to setting him on fire, on April 19, 2012. Sheriffs’ Deputy Tommy Hudson, of Andrew County, said in a probable cause statement that after igniting the child, the defendant, Joseph Gardner of St. Joseph, “stood there and laughed.”
The victim suffered first and second degree burns on his face, right arm, in his nose, and throat.
Associate Circuit Judge Mike Ordnung set bond for Gardner at $150,000. Despite Gardner being told to shut up by the Hon. Judge Ordnung, he continually attempted to explain why he decided to set the child on fire.
Gardner is also reported to have threatened to kill the child and his family, if he told anyone what had happened.
He remains in Andrew County Jail.
