Michigan (The Gaslamp Post) – Lansing police say a man who was wearing a cape and carrying a sword, broke into a home and set fire to the kitchen, leading to a 4 hour standoff.  Neighbors last Saturday, reported a man who was going door to door, soliciting food and asking strange questions.  They all ordered him off of their property, according to Mlive.

It was then that a neighbor called police, to report the man had broken a window and entered a home.  The home’s residents were out-of-town at the time.

Police found the broken window and had observed the man moving about the inside of the home.  After repeatedly ordering the man out of the home, officers forced their way in after noticing smoke coming from the inside.  According to police, the man set fire to the kitchen.

Lansing Fire Department arrived and was able to extinguish the fire.

The man was able to elude police but was cornered after he barricaded himself in a back bedroom.  After a 4 hour standoff, police were able to take him into custody.  He was taken to the hospital where he was given a physical and psychological evaluation.  He remains in “protective custody” and is awaiting placement in the looney bin.

Police say they may pursue charges of home invasion, arson, and resisting police, even if the man is institutionalized.
