Indiana (The Gaslamp Post) – A recently resigned sheriff’s deputy was arrested last week, and is accused of burglary and theft of perscription drugs.  Police say that Douglas Tibbs, 33, former Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy, had stolen prescription drugs from a friend earlier this month.

Tibbs, a sergeant and former McGruff the Crime Dog crime prevention program participant, is reported to have resigned from the department during the investigation.

Investigators say that Tibbs had gone to a woman’s home who had recently undergone surgery, and stolen some of her prescription hydromorphone pills.  She was able to catch him on cell phone video, when he tried to do it again on May 20.

Tibbs has been charged with four felonies:  two counts of burglary, one count of theft and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

The former police officer admitted to investigators that he had taken the pills, and said that he had become addicted to pain medication after he sustained a back injury at work.  He reportedly was prescribed vicodine after he was injured falling out of a chair at the Crime Stoppers office, in 2011.
