Washington D.C. (The Gaslamp Post) – The city of Los Angeles, located in the biggest welfare state in the union, California, is now being sued over a new “local order” which is said to be aimed at aiding illegal aliens.  Judicial Watch announced that it has filed a lawsuit on behalf of the tax-payer, on May 8, 2012, aimed directly at the LA Board of Commissioner’s “Special Order 7”.

Judicial Watch, an organization notorious for investigating and prosecuting government corruption, spearheaded this issue right off the bat.  For those not already familiar with “Special Order 7,” it blocks the immediate impounding of vehicles driven by unlicensed drivers, if another licensed driver is available to drive it away, the driver has identification of some kind, and has no major moving violations.  The driver isn’t expected to be arrested any longer.

Already state law under the California Vehicle Code, any vehicle driven by an unlicensed driver is to be impounded for a minimum of 30 days.  This new local police order attempts to go around state law.

Unless one knew what the history surrounding this kind of move was all about, one would question what it had to do with illegal aliens.  One need look no further than two very major developments; 1) Los Angeles has declared itself a “sanctuary city” for illegal aliens, and 2) the fact that a previous lawsuit against “Special Order 40” was blocked by a California court.

“Special Order 40”, prevented police from determining the status of any alien.  Judicial Watch attempted to sue the LAPD over it, but was blocked by California courts from proceeding.

Despite an obvious conflict with federal law, California state courts refused to let Judicial Watch’s taxpayer legal challenge against Special Order 40 proceed to trial.

“This is yet another example of the Los Angeles Police Department’s unlawful use of taxpayer dollars to further Los Angeles’ status as a sanctuary city,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.  “Special Order 7 is illegal and dangerous.  Unlicensed drivers – whether unlawfully present aliens or not – are a menace to the public safety.  The Los Angeles Police Department is once again putting politics and ideology before the safety of citizens, police officers and the rule of law.”

The next time you hear about California needing a bailout from the Federal Government, realize that not only are they getting bailed out by US, but that they are using OUR money to protect ILLEGAL ALIENS.
