Homeless Robber In Wheelchair Tries To Mug Woman

Washington State (The Gaslamp Post) – A woman and her boyfriend fought off an unlikely attacker earlier this month, as he tried to steal her purse.  Police say Jerry Lemaster, 54, of Seattle, had approached the couple from behind as they waited at a crosswalk.

The woman reported feeling a sharp object in her back and a tug on her purse strap.  When she turned she saw a man in a wheelchair, holding a knife, and trying to take off with her purse.  The woman and her boyfriend were able to fight off Lemaster, who gave the couple the middle finger as he fled in his wheelchair.

The woman was uninjured.

Police caught up with Lemaster about a block away and found a rusty folding knife in his possession.  In addition to that, he was also found to be in possession of some debit cards and a university ID belonging to another victim.  The woman whom the cards and ID belonged to had reported them stolen from her while she was at work and also said that her debit card had been used fraudulently.

Lemaster remains in custody, charged with attempted theft.  He is presently held on $10,000 bond.  No word yet if he has been charged for the other theft of the debit cards.
