Illinois (The Gaslamp Post) – After weeks of violence and bloodshed that left several children with gunshot wounds and one 7-year-old girl dead, Chicago’s Mayor Rahm “il capo” Emanuel announced his newest plan of attack in curbing gang violence on city streets.  He said that he was having vacant buildings and other businesses which attract unsavory characters closed down, and in some cases demolishing buildings altogether.

I hear Elba is nice this time of year…

After having been repeatedly criticized for his perceived failures due to policy changes and repeatedly blaming the previous administration, Mayor Emanuel has decided to go right to the heart of the matter.  The good mayor is now attempting to appeal to the better nature of the city’s gang population.

He’s asking that they please stay away from the children.

“We’ve got two gangbangers, one standing next to a kid.  Get away from that kid.  Take your stuff away to the alley.  Don’t touch the children of the city of Chicago.  Don’t get near them,” said Mayor Emanuel on Monday night.  As if believing that the wayward, gun-toting thugs were only misunderstood, the mayor went on to reinforce his position that these cold-blooded killers and violent offenders do in fact have values.

Notice how he didn’t tell them to knock it off, he told them to take it elsewhere.

“And it is about values. As I said then (referring to  the 7-year-old girl who was shot and killed last month), who raised you? How were you raised?” asked Mayor Emanuel.  “And I don’t buy this case where people say they don’t have values. They do have values. They have the wrong values. Don’t come near the kids — don’t touch them.”

Riiiiiiiiiight………

Apparently the thugs who shot a 13-year-old boy on his front porch last night hadn’t heard the good mayor’s plea for compassion.  In addition to the youngster who took a bullet for his friend, several other people were wounded by gun violence overnight.

The Chicago Tribune writes:

• Just before midnight, a 28-year-old man was shot in the 9600 block of South Merrion Avenue in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood, police said. He was sitting on a car when someone fired shots from a passing light-colored sedan, grazing the man in his left side and in his forearm. He refused treatment from paramedics at the scene, police said.

• A 17-year-old boy was walking in the 5000 block of South Wood Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood about 10:40 p.m. when someone in a dark sedan fired shots and hit the boy in the right knee. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, police said.

•  A 24-year-old man standing on the corner of 65th Street and Lowe Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood was wounded in a drive-by shooting about 9:25 p.m, police said. He was shot in the leg and was stable at Stroger Hospital, police said.

• About the same time, an 18-year-old was shot in the leg and taken to Roseland Community Hospital. He was on the sidewalk in the 10800 block of South Green Street in the Morgan Park neighborhood when someone shot him from a nearby gangway, police said.

• A man was shot in the Logan Square neighborhood about 8:50 p.m. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with trauma, Fire Department spokesman Kevin MacGregor said. Police said he was shot in the 1800 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, but the fire department said he was transported from the 1900 block of North Western Avenue.

• A 19-year-old man was shot in the arm in the 900 block of East Pershing Road about 7:54 p.m., police said. He was in good condition at the University of Chicago Hospitals.

• About 5 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in the 10300 block of South Wallace Street in the Fernwood neighborhood. He was taken to Roseland Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

I can honestly say I don’t miss living in Chicago.
