Tennessee (The Gaslamp Post) – Memphis police arrested a mother after she was discovered clam-baking in her car, with her toddler passed out in the back seat.

Officers on patrol spotted a car parked outside of a closed building, last Thursday, and approached the vehicle.  They initiated a traffic stop when the vehicle reportedly began to pull away.

Police reported that smoke billowed from the driver’s side window, as it was lowered for them.  They immediately realized that the smoke was marijuana.

Michelle Ball, 25, was arrested after police discovered not only a “blunt” (marijuana rolled in a cigar leaf wrapper), but her 2-year-old son unconscious in the back.  Officers immediately called an ambulance for the child because he was “very difficult to wake”, according to the Commercial Appeal.

A juvenile passenger inside of the car reportedly told police, “I don’t know what the problem is. We only hit the blunt once each and then y’all came rolling up.”

Ball was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a child, driving under the influence of intoxicants or drugs, and DUI – child endangerment.  She also received a citation after her son’s car seat was discovered to not be secured, according to police.

Her son was released to a relative.

She was released from jail last Friday, on $5000.
