Mississippi (The Gaslamp Post) – “No, it wasn’t the shot heard ’round the world, but it made it to Texas.” A dad working out-of-state in Texas was able to share his 8-year-old daughter’s victory when she took down a monster buck several states away.
Thanks to the marvels of modern technology, he was able to hear for himself as his baby girl bagged an 8 pointer that most hunters spend a lifetime searching for.
Cameron Murphy had reportedly picked her daughter Landyn up from school last week, and they returned home to their family owned land. Mom took Landyn straight to their tree stand, where mom watched the field as Landyn finished her homework.
According to Clarion-Ledger, a few does were feeding in the field before them, but not being Landyn’s first hunt, she wasn’t phased in the slightest. All at once the heads of the female’s popped up as if they heard something, and off they ran.
A moment later, mother and daughter realized why. Two bucks; one 9 point and one 8 point came walking up.
Grandpa who was overseeing the whole thing from 300 yards away through his field scope immediately grabbed the phone, and called his son who was out of town on a job.
Danny, Landyn’s father, was immediately on the phone with his dad and he was being given the play-by-play.
“He called me up and said that big buck just walked out and I can see Landyn standing up,” said Danny. “Then he said listen, she’s about to shoot.”
Grandpa described the scene to her dad as little Landyn popped over the edge of the tree stand with a .44 caliber magnum rifle, and took aim at the massive animals. She set her sights on the 8 point that was roughly 100 yards away, which was the much larger of the two.
The little girl pulled the trigger and her daddy heard it hundreds of miles away. His heart pounded with anticipation, awaiting word that his little girl took the beast down.
“Oh man, my heart went through my throat,” said her father. “I was pacing back and forth.”
There was a crack of the shot and then silence… and then all at once dad found out that she did it! The big boy jumped up, kicked, and then down he went.
“I thought I was never going to get him,” said Landyn.
Landyn’s harvest brought in an animal weighing a whopping 240 pounds, having a spread of 18 1/2″, and was 143 1/2″ long. The tiny, 47 pound child bagged a deer that most hunters would not be so lucky to find in a lifetime.
“He looked like a horse with her next to it!” said Landyn’s father. “She may not realize now what she’s done, but when she’s 20 or 30 and still trying to kill a deer this big, she’ll know,” said her mother.
