Texas (The Gaslamp Post) – A homeowner in Grand Prairie was surprised to find out that the man he shot who had broken into his home, was a neighbor of his. Police say that they received a 911 emergency call yesterday at around 2:30 pm, from a home owner who was reporting a break in.
The resident stated that he had heard a window on the side of his home break, and that is when he retrieved his .40 cal. handgun.
He then reportedly shot the intruder in the stomach, who was armed with a knife, while on the phone with police.
“During the conversation with him, we could hear him yelling, ‘You came at me with a knife,'” said Grand Prairie Detective Lyle Gensler. “We responded within about a minute and 30 seconds.”
Police arrested 21-year-old Gilberto Balderas, who was being held at gun point by the resident. Balderas reportedly lives a mere two blocks from the victim.
He was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
