Washington D.C. (The Gaslamp Post) – In response to recent statements coming from the White House pledging executive action on the issue of gun-control, one congressman has stepped forward to remind the president of exactly where his authority ends.  Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) made it quite clear of what he will do if President Obama attempts to usurp the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution with an executive order.

Rep. Stockman in an announcement yesterday said that he would do everything within his power to defend the American people from an unconstitutional executive mandate, up to and including impeaching the president.

Rep. Stockman stated that:

“I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment.”

He reinforced his position then by reminding the president of what exactly his authority is and where he may potentially overstep his boundaries.

“Any proposal to abuse executive power and infringe upon gun rights must be repelled with the stiffest legislative force possible,” he added. “Under no circumstances whatsoever may the government take any action that disarms any peaceable person — much less without due process through an executive declaration without a vote of Congress or a ruling of a court.”

Rep. Stockman condemned the audacity of the president, calling the very notion of a president issuing an executive order to subvert one of our most important founding principles as, “not just an attack on the Constitution, but an attack on Americans.”  He called this an “existential threat to this nation,” because the whole purpose of the Second Amendment is to provide a means for the American people to defend themselves from a tyrannical government.

According to the Blaze, Rep. Stockman ended his statement, saying that:

“The President’s actions are not just an attack on the Constitution and a violation of his sworn oath of office – they are a direct attack on Americans that place all of us in danger…If the President is allowed to suspend constitutional rights on his own personal whims, our free republic has effectively ceased to exist.”
