UPDATE 1/3/2012 – The New York newspaper which published the names and home addresses of legal handgun license holders in an effort to shame  and demonize firearm ownership has had to hire armed security to protect themselves.  The update follows the story below.

New York (The Gaslamp Post) – Keeping in lock-step with the political elites pushing forward with their intention to disarm Americans, a newspaper in New York has published a map indicating the locations of all handgun permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties.  The online article published in the New York Journal News included maps with dots indicating the locations of the legal permit holders, along with their first and last names, and their home addresses.

In New York state, a private citizen is required to obtain a special permit in order to purchase and own a handgun.  It is required to be renewed every 5 years.

The state has no such permit requirements for purchasing or owning a long gun.

Another screen shot showing how easily the law abiding citizen of New York has their privacy compromised.

The article entitled, “The gun owner next door: What you don’t know about the weapons in your neighborhood” while claiming that all of this information is already a matter of public record, is blatantly cashing in on the fear and blood of innocent victims of recent gun-related tragedies.

This sort of painfully obvious tactic should come as no surprise since it has been uncovered that politicians along with their golfing buddies in the media send their children to the same schools.  Those whom are on the evening news seem pretty well acquainted with the political elites, and when one-hand-washes-the-other, it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to connect the dots.

Why it is that this information had to be published now and in this manner has many citizens furious.

According to some statements collected by AMI Global Security, one equated the publishing of these private citizen’s information to being treated like a registered sex-offender.

Others were even less pleased:

“The gun -owner has an added responsibility to take all measures that their firearms do not fall into the  hands of such miscreants. Beside the natural precautions, they cannot permit themselves to fall hostage in trade    for access to their firearms locks.”

” If the homeowner is killed or injured, will LOHUD be charged as an accomplice to the crime?”

“It is as if they put out an ad to jewel thieves listing the names and addresses of where to find diamonds and cash.”

“This is CRAZY!! why in the world would you post every licensed gun owner information?? What do you hope to accomplish by doing this? This is the type of thing you do for sex offenders not law abiding gun owners. What next? should I hang a flag outside my house that says I own a gun?”

“Now everyone knows where the LEGAL GUNS are kept, a valuable piece of information for criminals. Why don’t you do something helpful, like trying to find out where the ILLEGAL GUNS are kept? That would be helpful to the non-criminal population”

This poorly timed report may actually not be so poorly timed after all.  Since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary school earlier this month, certain politicians have used it to further their own selfish agendas by exploiting the victims of the heinous crime.

NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg has made his intentions perfectly clear; he wishes to see “assault weapons” across the country banned.  What exactly his little brain perceives as an assault weapon has yet to be determined, but he’d rather see bans in place disarming you now, and then figure out the rationale later.

“It’s time for the president, I think, to stand up and lead,” he said. “This should be his number one agenda. He’s president of the United States, and if he does nothing during his second term, something like 48,000 Americans will be killed with illegal guns.

Mayor Bloomberg: How DARE you ask me why I have armed security?

“The president, through his leadership, could get a bill like that (banning assault weapons) through Congress, but at least he’s got to try. That’s his job,” Bloomberg said.

What is even more alarming is that Mayor Bloomberg isn’t alone in his illogical beliefs.  Earlier this month New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo said that he intends to introduce a proposition which will limit what he thinks the general public has no legitimate right to own, as far as he’s concerned.

Yooz guyz iz gunna give up dem gunz, see? Yooz leave dat protec-shun to us!

Yooz guyz iz gunna give up dem gunz, see? Yooz leave dat protec-shun to us!

And if that includes mandatory firearms confiscation, which is in direct violation of the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution, then so be it.

“There’s a big difference of opinion on these issues,” Mr. Cuomo, a Democrat, said in an interview on an Albany radio station.

“I don’t think legitimate sportsmen are going to say, ‘I need an assault weapon to go hunting,’ ” he said. At the same time, he noted that he owns a shotgun that he has used for hunting, and said, “There is a balance here — I understand the rights of gun owners; I understand the rights of hunters…

Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it.”

Cuomo is also reported to be working with notorious gun-grabber and advocate for government-assisted dependency, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) on the next “assault weapons ban” which she wishes to see rammed through congress and thrust upon an unwilling American people.

Exploiting this common practice, word emerged at the end of last week that Congresswoman Dianne Feinstein and NY State Gov Andrew Cuomo are actively working on a planned govt fiat to seize lawfully owned private property without cause. In the form of an Australian style MANDATORY firearms buy back program, going so far as to tout that Countries program and so called positive results, while conveniently omitting the fact that Australia’s violent crime rate dramatically increased in the wake of the scheme and continues unabated.

Do as I say, not as I do: “I carried a concealed weapon. I made the determination that if somebody was going to try to take me out, I was going to take them with me.” Diane Feinstein, April 27, 1995.

Do as I say, not as I do: “I carried a concealed weapon. I made the determination that if somebody was going to try to take me out, I was going to take them with me.” Dianne Feinstein, April 27, 1995.

While details are scant in both Feinstein’s and Cuomo’s press release on the plan, Cuomo was quoted as making it clear that the buyback would be compulsory and participation mandatory. Although it remains a question what the penalties for non compliance would be. Cuomo further added that they would make gun owners “an offer they can’t refuse” when referring to buyback amounts of up to 500 dollars.

Sounding more like a NY mafioso then a “leader” in a Free State with significant Constitutional Protections in the way. Cuomo’s offer serves not only to further reveal his elitist arrogance, but also highlights his ignorance, presuming that the owner of a 1 , 2 or 3000 dollar firearm (or multiple ones) would roll over and comply for a cash value orders of magnitude below retail values.

This is happening because you are allowing it America.  If you are not flooding your elected employees email accounts and voice mails with your strong disdain for this gun-control nonsense, if you are not tying up the phone lines to their offices and voicing your concern over the unconstitutionality of this foolishness, then I can tell you this; these bans WILL happen, and it will be because you wanted it.

Update 1/3/2012 – After Journal News (lohud.com) published an online article featuring an interactive map showing the locations, names, and home addresses of legal handgun licensees, a blogger had gone ahead and turned the tables on them, publishing the same information but of those who published the original article.

Since outing various employees of the Gannet owned news outlet responsible for what is now being thought of as a senseless attack on law abiding citizens, the newspaper has itself had to hire private armed security in order to protect their employees.  As predicted, those who take issue with the ability of others to defend themselves, have no such issue when it comes to having guns protecting them.

According to the Country Times:

“A Clarkstown police report issued on December 28, 2012, confirmed that The Journal News has hired armed security guards from New City-based RGA Investigations and that they are manning the newspaper’s Rockland County headquarters … through at least tomorrow, Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

Due to apparent safety concerns, the newspaper then decided to hire RGA Investigations to provide armed personnel to man the location.”

Journal News Rockland Editor Caryn McBride said that after learning of the outrage sparked by her news outlet upon releasing such information to the public, that she was “genuinely surprised”.  They have since received numerous angry phone calls and emails, decrying the story.

Sen. Gregory Ball (R-NY) called the editors of the Journal News “asinine”, and said that he intends to introduce new legislation that would keep this sort of information private, except to law enforcement.

“The asinine editors at the Journal News have once again gone out of their way to place a virtual scarlet letter on law abiding firearm owners throughout the region”.

UPDATE UPDATE 1/19/2013 – Although they have stood by their controversial decision to publish the names and home addresses of registered gun permit holders in several counties of New York state, the Journal News has reportedly pulled the article down.  The news releases which drew fire from both gun-rights and privacy advocates has been blames for recent burglaries of individuals whose names and addresses were made public by them.

The Gannet media outlet is distancing themselves from the break-in incidents, and claiming that the removal of the story was aimed at being compliant with the new state law, which prohibits permit holder information from becoming public.

“Today The Journal News has removed the permit data from lohud.com. Our decision to do so is not a concession to critics that no value was served by the posting of the map in the first place,” Journal News publisher Janet Hasson explained. “On the contrary, we’ve heard from too many grateful community members to consider our decision to post information contained in the public record to have been a mistake. Nor is our decision made because we were intimidated by those who threatened the safety of our staffers. We know our business is a controversial one, and we do not cower.”

State Senator Greg Ball(R), who has led the charge against the article published by the Journal News released a public statement about the paper’s decision to pull the story down.  In his statement he entitled, “Victory against idiocy at Journal News”, Sen. Ball said the following:

“Thank God the Journal News has finally realized the error in their judgment and done the right thing. Whether they did this responding to the public’s outcry or because they were simply fearful of getting sued due to the rash of burglaries and threats against law enforcement and victims of domestic violence, we will never know. Regardless, I am proud to have passed legislation keeping the Journal News from doing this ever again and proud to have been shoulder to shoulder with thousands of residents who were dealt a crappy hand by the eggheads at the Journal News. I look forward to them creating an interactive map of level three sexual predators, rapists and felons with illegal gun purchases, but I won’t hold my breath.”
