The Coming “2013 Assault Weapons Ban” – And The Liberal Lies Perpetuating It.

Washington D.C. (The Gaslamp Post) – Sen. Dianne Feinstein made her intentions official today, as she seeks to further her agenda of disarming Americans.  This afternoon, surrounded by her like-minded, gun-grabbing cohorts, she held another one of her “dramatic” press conferences, during which she revealed the 150 types of firearms that she wants to see banned.

In typical Feinstein fashion, she surrounded herself with intimidating looking firearms and pointed to them as the bad guy.

Sen. Feinstein (D-CA) during today’s press conference, pushing the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013.

“Our weak gun laws allow these mass killings to be carried out again, and again, and again in our country,” Feinstein said. “Weapons, designed originally for the military to kill large numbers of people in close combat, are replicated for civilian use.”

Sen. Feinstein, who was the major push behind the failed 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, has publicly called for the prohibition of the “sale, transfer, manufacture and importation” of any of those weapons on her list, and intends to ban magazines which hold more than 10 rounds.  In addition to said Assault Weapons Ban, she is also proposing that current firearms owners must be registered, fingerprinted, and photographed; similar to certain criminals and sex offenders.

But to Sen. Feinstein however, it’s for the firearm owner’s own good.

…for any weapons that are “grandfathered,” she would demand that the owners be investigated, photographed and fingerprinted; the type and serial number of the weapon be registered and local law enforcement certify that it is legal.

She claims it would protect “rights of existing gun owners” because it would grandfather weapons already legally owned and exempt “disabled” weapons.

But for any weapons that are “grandfathered,” she would demand that the owners be investigated, photographed and fingerprinted; the type and serial number of the weapon be registered and local law enforcement certify that it is legal.

Feinstein’s ban on any transfers would include “assault” weapons, which means owners of semiautomatic rifles would be allowed to pay the tax and keep them until they die, when they would be forfeited to the government.

Yes, it reportedly would also impose taxes on those whom acquired firearms legally of upwards of $200.  This tax would come on top of what a law-abiding citizen had already paid for the firearm.

While still riding the wave of emotional turmoil and taking full advantage of the tragic loss of life in recent weeks, Sen. Feinstein said that the absence of her legislation is why mass shootings occur.

Feinstein said the country’s “weak” gun laws allow massacres like the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occur.

What is helping fuel Sen. Feinstein’s ploy are the efforts of other gun grabbers like Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), who are slipping their own bills into Congress at the same time.  Paralleling Sen. Feinstein’s agenda, these two elected representatives are pushing for their own high-capacity magazine ban.

“It is clearer than ever that there is no place in our communities for military-style supersized magazines like those used inside Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Aurora, and in Tucson, and I will keep working to reinstate the ban on them,” said Mr. Lautenberg.

Ms. McCarthy, a Democrat from New York, called high-capacity magazines “the common thread in every mass shooting in recent history.” Her husband was killed in a shooting spree on the Long Island Rail Road in 1993.

Coming as no surprise, the so-called “experts” in the subject of crimonology are pointing to the City of New York, as an example of how fewer guns means fewer crime.  Crime rates have reportedly decreased since Mayor Bloomberg had taken office in 2002, and some honestly believe that it is attributed to a law abiding citizen’s difficulty in obtaining a firearm.

“…leading criminologists around the country say Bloomberg is right, for the most part. While acknowledging policing isn’t the only factor in reducing gun violence, they cite the all-time low number of slayings in a city where most people are killed with guns.

“New York is showing the way for some good strategies in policing,” said Harold Pollack, co-director of the University of Chicago Crime Lab.

“The more of us that we have together, the better we’ll be able to make the case to Congress why sensible gun laws have to be on the books and have to be enforced,” he said last week in Washington. “We just cannot continue to have 33 people a day killed in the United States with guns, and over 40 people commit suicide with guns every single day.”

There may or may not be a correlation between the two; that the decrease in legal firearms ownership means less crime.  According to data obtained from NYC.gov, overall crime statistics show that crime in NYC has significantly gone down.

In addition to murder, several other crime rates, for things like arson and criminal mischief are also on the decline.  Other trends, while having showed a declining trend, do in fact seem to be on the rise again.

Felony Assault, while steadily declining since 2000, have been increasing steadily since 2008.  Other felonious offenses like rape, are also again on the rise.

Since 2009, the number of reported cases of rape havealso been increasing in the city.  Could this be due to making firearms more difficult for law abiding citizens to obtain?  Surprisingly, another rate which has been on the rise, in a place where law abiding citizens face many obstructions when exercising their constitutional rights, is in the area of illegal gun possession crimes.

Here we see that the rate at which unlawful possession of a deadly weapon has been at an ever increasing rate since the year 2000.  These numbers show that although there are tough gun laws, criminals are still obtaining them.  Taking note that the category of felony dangerous weapon has been decreasing since 2009, the reason may not be why you think.

The rise in unlawful dangerous weapons charges, many politicians (along with other assorted non-thinking, talking points spouting individuals) are attributing to other surrounding states.  It’s now the fault of the other states when one state experiences problems.

Has anyone ever stopped to think about what that claim is actually saying?

The neat little liberal claim is that there is some sneaky little “gun show loophole” that allows individuals to buy large quantities of firearms and then sell said firearm anonymously without a background check.  There’s all of these people out there who are waiting outside of gun stores in other states, getting people walking in to buy them a gun – much like a teenager waiting outside of a liquor store.

Unfortunately for that idea, anyone who buys multiple firearms within a given period is already flagged by the ATF and state Bureaus of Investigation, at the time of purchase.

The logical reason for the rise in unlawful weapons possession is that lawful possession is made difficult.  During the prohibition, wasn’t alcohol still to be had?  There has been a war on drugs since the 1980’s, and yet illicit drugs are found in every city, state, and town in America.

Making something illegal does not make it go away.

But what about the drop in crime in New York City?  Numbers don’t lie do they?

Apparently what the good people of the lame-stream media forgot to tell you about, was a story from last year in which several thousand NYC police officers had something to say about those numbers.  Not one or two, SEVERAL THOUSAND.

According to Politix.com, 2000 New York City police officers revealed in a survey that they had been ordered to downgrade certain crimes, and in some cases actually discourage victims from reporting incidents.

From a survey of nearly 2,000 retired boys and girls in blue, it was found that many officers had downgraded certain offenses to lesser crimes – e.g. “burglary” to “criminal trespass” – or discouraged victims from filing complaints.

Research designer Eli B. Silverman said the findings reveal not so much a “rotten apple” problem of police corruption, but rather a “rotten barrel.”

Another story about this survey of New York law enforcement officials not only confirmed what was found on Politix, but blatantly said why; the city wants the image of having a low crime rate.  According to the Atlantic:

New York City police officers are pressured to “artificially reduce crime rates,” according to an anonymous survey of nearly 2,000 retired officers.

The survey, conducted via email by researchers at Molloy College, found that many officers had downgraded crimes to lesser offenses. Others had discouraged victims from filing complaints. The goal? To get better stats, something that’s long been a goal of the New York Police Department.

This whole notion that fewer guns means less crime is FARCE!  How can you honestly make that assertion when the whole way that the data is gathered is based on lies and deception?  You can’t.

If there was any merit to the claim that fewer guns in the hands of law abiding citizens means less crime, then why does the idea require a lie to perpetuate it?  Gun control does nothing but make the law abiding defenseless while at the same time empowering the criminal.

Any politician who would consider this sort of legislative nonsense is not living up to their obligation to their constituents, be them Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative.  This issue is not about controlling guns or diminishing violence against children, it is about tyranny.

Americans everywhere must contact their elected representatives immediately if not sooner.  This cannot be allowed to pass, and any and all elected employees who would consider such nonsense should be put on notice.
