Georgia (The Gaslamp Post) – Police have two teens in custody who they suspect are responsible for shooting a mother and her baby during a robbery attempt yesterday. Authorities today say the two teens, one 17, the other 14, approached a woman while she was walking her infant in a stroller and demanded money.
While the mother survived with a bullet wound to her ear and leg, her 13-month-old infant, Antonio, was killed when one of the teens pointed a gun at his head and pulled the trigger. According to the victim, Sherry West:
“Two boys approached me. Two African American boys. One of them was about 15,” said West. “He said, ‘I’m going to kill you if you don’t give me money,’ and I said, ‘I swear I don’t have any.'”
“I put my arms over my baby and he shoves me and then he shot my baby right in the head,” said the child’s tearful mother.
Police have arrested their two suspects in connection with the baby’s murder. Brunswick police have arrested De’Marquise Elkins, 17, and a second suspect who is reportedly only 14.
Baby Antonio’s father, Luis Santiago said that he wishes he could have been there to protect them both. “He was special. He had the bluest, bluest eyes,” Santiago told WAWS-TV.
Police are charging both suspects with first-degree murder but no weapon has been found. They have reportedly executed search warrants on at least three locations.
