Sheriff’s Son Arrested Days After Father.

Kentucky (The Gaslamp Post) – A sheriff from Eastern Kentucky and his son have been arrested just days apart from each other, and surprisingly – on similar charges.  According to, Jeffrey Blackburn, 29, son of Floyd County Sheriff John K. Blackburn, was arrested Wednesday night in Prestonburg on charges of public intoxication.

Jeffrey Blackburn’s arrest comes less than a week after his father John’s arrest in Powell County, where he was charged with drunken driving.

Police say they received a tip about an erratic driver and went to investigate.  When police found the suspected vehicle, it was parked and empty, according to WYMT-TV.

“They had actually parked their vehicle and went into a store, but we didn’t know which store they went into,” said Prestonsburg Police Sgt. Brian Walker.

That is when police say some employees at an Italian restaurant got their attention.

“Two of them was outside and they said ‘hey there’s a guy that’s been in our bathroom for like 20 minutes and when he came in he just didn’t appear right,'” said Sgt. Walker.

Police say Blackburn’s actions were clearly those of someone under the influence, so they gave him a field sobriety test which they say he failed.

The employees of the restaurant were reportedly going to call police until they looked outside and spotted the officers.  Jeffrey Blackburn was arrested and charged with public intoxication of a controlled substance.

Jeffrey is due in court this coming Monday.  The elder Blackburn is due back in court for his arraignment hearing on April 9, 2013.
