This is the same jackass who sent police in to people’s homes to disarm them and abuse helpless victims during the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. Funny how what goes around, comes around. – tglp
Louisiana (Manuel Torres-Times-Picayune) – Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin‘s trial has been delayed until Oct. 7, as a federal judge granted a joint request from Nagin and the government to postpone the trial. The previous date was April 29.
The approval of the delay by U.S. District Judge Helen “Ginger” Berrigan had been expected as both sides supported the move.
Nagin was indicted in January on 21 counts, including bribery, money laundering, conspiracy and tax fraud. He pleaded not guilty last month, and remains free on a $100,000 bond. At the time of his indictment, Nagin’s attorney, Robert Jenkins, had said he was in plea negotiations with prosecutors. There have been no reports of an impending deal.
The joint request for a trial delay said the “case involves complex litigation and that it is unreasonable to expect adequate preparation before the currently scheduled trial date.”
Failing to postpone the trial, Nagin’s attorney and prosecutors wrote, would be a “miscarriage of justice.”
